Metro Beat is a free, offline-friendly rhythm game about driving the last metro of the night. Three rails run down the screen and the train sits low on them, so the whole upcoming track is above it and your thumb can never cover what you need to read. The track advances exactly one tie per beat, forever, whatever you do - and it scrolls in discrete beat steps rather than smoothly, so the picture itself is the metronome. The next eight beats are always drawn ahead of you, which means every switch is something you see coming rather than something that ambushes you. Most rhythm games end on one missed note, which is why the genre's sessions are so short; here a miss costs speed and score, never the run. The night is a fixed line with named stations along it, and reaching the terminus opens an overtime run for players who want to keep going.
